A message from Maryrose:
Hello Folks,

I want to thank everyone who had an order last Friday for their patience as we were a little short staffed.

I spent a big part of the weekend recovering from such a great pick up.  We work really hard to bring you such wonderful locally grown and produced food.  At the end of this month it will be three years since I partnered up with Rachael.  Time has flown by.

We have spent the last three years growing our families and this company.  Thanks to everyone who has supported us and this food movement.

There are several additions to the offering list this week.  Here are some of them:
  • Lester and Irene Brubacher have added Curly Endive, large pumpkins
  • Floralane has added several pies including Pumpkin and Lemon Meringue. They have also added cinnamon buns, coconut and chocolate chip butter tarts, and several types of squares.
  • Garden Party has added a juicer mix of vegetables - it makes 1.5 litres of juice or so.  Also a veggie grab bag for those who don't want to decide.
  • Taste and Colour (formally Casa Salsa) has a mole sauce added to their offering.
  • Lena Horst has a few new squash varieties available.  Sweet Mama's and a Squash called Heart of Gold.  Same shape as an acorn squash coloured orange, gold, green and cream.
  • Bauman Apiaries has added safflower stamens. (Ontario's Saffron) in the 'other' section
  • New Moon has a new Gluten Free Chocolate cookie and we are fully stocked in all other varieties
  • St. David's now has individual orange peppers
  • Chocolate Turkeys from Anna Tolazzi. Available in semi-sweet chocolate, milk chocolate and bittersweet chocolate too, these beauties are the loveliest and tastiest centrepieces/desserts we've enjoyed on our holiday table. (Check them out at http://annatolazzi.com/category/chocolates/seasonal)
  • We have parsnips, fingerling potatoes and bulk eggplant available from Pfennings
  • Don't forget to order your favourite yogurt. Mapleton's Organic comes in 6 flavours: 3.9% Natural, Vanilla and Strawberry or 0% Natural, Vanilla and Blueberry
  • Very tasty Apple Pear Cider is available from Warner's Farm (under beverages) and all the great fruit below
  • Bacon from Harrington Lane Farms got two thumbs up from my family.
Here is a quick note from Theresa at Garden Party:
No frost forecast and lots of flowers and herbs still!  But at Garden Party we are tired and we want to do our fall cleaning up. So we are opening our flower and herb bed to pickers on Friday October 4, 4:00 รข€" 6:00 only. Free pick your own flowers and herbs for personal use. We still have: zinnias, celosia,  sweet William, lavender, calendula, nasturitums, sages, thymes, dill galore, rosemary, basils, tarragon and much much more.

Niagara Fruit

All our Niagara fruit is Tree Run, which means that the fruit is not sent to the grading station. The fruit is picked riper (and tastier) and avoids fungicidal baths and defuzzing of peaches. The size of the fruit may be bigger or smaller as well.

Here are the Niagara Fruit we have From Warner's Farms this week:
Hardy Kiwi aka Chinee Gooseberry is a berry or grape sized fruit that will remind you of the fuzzy kiwi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actinidia_arguta
Peaches: Cresthaven - The last of the peaches?
Pears: Flemish Beauty, Clapp's Favourite, Bartlett, Bosc,
D'anjou and Hw623
Plums: Italian Prune plums, German Prune Plums (smaller and sweeter than the Italian prune plums), Verity, Vision and Valour Blue plums
Grapes: Vanessa (pink, tangy, seedless),
Sovereign Coronation (blue, virtually seedless), Himrod (green, seedless), Fredonia, Niagara and Concord.
Nuts are coming too!

Cheers,
Maryrose and Rachael
