Amazing cheese!

All I want to do is talk about cherries (see below for more about Warner cherries and PYO cherries), but we tried some tasty new cheeses this week and I want to share them with you!
We finally received smoked feta from Quality Sheep Milk. If you were one of the lucky folks who got to try it when I did an impromptu sampling on Friday, you know how tasty it is! It's salty, and smoky, and great to share (because otherwise you might eat the whole package)! Look for it under 'sheep cheese' in the dairy section
Our friends at Mountainoak Cheese make yummy Dutch Style Gouda with milk from their cows. There are lots of new flavours we are offering now (details below).
Enjoy,
Rachael and Maryrose

Here is the entire list of Gouda from Mountainoak:
  • *Gold, Aged  -  Award Winning! A full flavoured farmstead gouda that exudes hints of butterscotch and caramel.
  • Black Pepper -  We added some black peppers to our fully aged cheese. The natural caramel-like sweetness develops through age and the black pepper creates an amazing marriage of flavours
  • Black Truffle - Uniquely aromatic and often thought of as a cheese to be saved for special occasions, Black Truffle cheese is a nice mild cheese with a unique mushroom flavor.
  • Chili Pepper - A smooth creamy gouda with chili peppers giving it a hint of a bite on the finish. Nothing to be afraid of, just the right amount of heat to make this cheese a special delight.
  • Cumin, Aged, Medium or Mild  - Cumin Gouda, being the classic Dutch Gouda cheese, is also very versatile, used for anything from snacks to cheese boards.
  • Farmstead Premium, 2 year, Aged, Medium and Mild - Award Winning! Our Farmstead Premium Dutch Gouda rivals any made in the Netherlands. It has the same mild taste, creamy texture and small, bubbly eyes.
  • Farmstead Premium, Smoked - Award Winning! Naturally apple wood smoked. Smooth and creamy Farms
  • Fenugreek - Fenugreek was, already in 1600 BC, highly praised due to its many health benefits. It has a mild, nutty taste that complements the natural flavour of the cheese.
  • Fiery - 'Some like it hot' and this red pepper cheese is a favourite with cheese lovers who prefer the 'not so mild' taste experience. We add jalapeno peppers to this Gouda cheese.
  • Friesian - Friesian Gouda is a washed-rind cow's milk farmstead cheese that is nutty and sweet with a hint of fruitiness. When young, its texture is firm but creamy.
  • Mustard - A unique rustic cheese with a robust sharp and pungent flavour and aroma of fresh whole mustard seeds to excite your taste buds! We use only natural whole mustard seed
  • Wild Nettle - Mountainoak Wild Nettle is irrefutably 'green', with a suggestion of spinach, cabbage and broccoli, and a unique earthy tingle. It's a distinctive taste...

Pick your own cherries! - A special opportunity for Bailey's Customers!

You're invited to visit Paula's rustic** family farm in Jordan Station, Ontario to Pick-Your-Own cherries!
From Paula:
We have both sweet and tart cherries.  Sweet cherries are ready now and will hopefully be available until July 19th, depending on the weather.  We expect the tart cherries to begin this Saturday and continue for about a week or so.
If you're interested if picking some cherries, email us so we can send you Paula's conatact information, then you can arrange a date and time.  P-Y-O will be by appointment only.
Prices* are as follows: (please note that these prices are not on our order form)
  • Sweet Cherries: 7 L basket: $30; 4 L basket: $25
  • Tart/Sour Cherries: 7 L basket: $20; 4 L basket: $15
*cash or cheque only
**Conditions are very rustic.  There is no running water and while there is currently a Johnny-on-the-Spot, I can't guarantee it will be there throughout the season.  The nearest Tim Hortons is a 5 minute drive away and Jordan Village is also 5 minutes away.
Kids are welcome, but will need to be supervised closely by their guardian as there may be heavy equipment operating in the orchard and there is also a large pond.
For anyone curious about tart cherries, here are some benefits of the fruit and some recipes.  Sweet cherries make tasty treats too.
Happy cherry season!
