Ordering is open for just over a week more. We've made this ordering period a bit longer so that those who enjoy March Break can still get an order in! If you are going somewhere tropical enjoy the local fruits that we can`t grow here and maybe bring some back for the rest of us!!! Have you ever tasted a local banana allowed to ripen on the tree? They are completely different than an imported banana!
Stand up for our FarmersKelly is one of our Buying Club Members and she emailed me a few days ago (March 4th) and asked that I share information about the moratorium on Genetically Modified Alfalfa. I would write more, but her note is concise and links to lots of information.
My name is Kelly and I am a member of your buying club. I am so thrilled to be able to support my local farmer and get excited over the abundance and variety of the beautiful food we have in Ontario. I have become an advocate of keeping our food supply safe and was wondering if you would be willing to help spread the word.
I am including a link to an email I received today from CBAN. A motion was tabled in parliament yesterday calling for a moratorium on the approval of genetically modified alfalfa in Canada. It is imperative to our farmers that this moratorium happen!
I am hoping that you would consider sending this to other Bailey's members so as a community we may raise awareness and work together to keep our food supply safe and protect the livelihood of our farmers. The link has a great cartoon and the info is well explained.

http://sarahskitchengardens.com/2011/01/new-pin-designs/ Some sad news from Pfenning's. We received news earlier this week that Wilhelm Pfenning passed away. Please keep the entire Pfenning family in your thoughts at this difficult time.
In 1981 Wilhelm and Barnhild Pfenning came from Germany to begin farming in Canada. That was the beginning of Pfenning's Organic Vegetables. In a time when there was little demand for organic produce, they understood the importance of health and the harm from chemicals in our food. Time has passed and increasingly consumers share these ideas.
