A message from Rachael:
The fruit season continues! This week we have the new-to-us Canadian Harmony Peaches. A freestone peach with yellow flesh. Juicy and sweet, but not too pretty. I liked the review at http://www.eatlikenoone.com/canadian-harmony-peaches.htm.
Peaches: Cresthaven, Canadian Harmony and Nectarines too
Pears: Flemish Beauty, Clapp's Favourite, Bartlett,
Plums: Italian Prune plums, Violet and Castleton, limited Damson plums also
Grapes: Vineland White (small berry, green, with seeds), NY Muscat (blue, with seeds), Sovereign Coronation (blue, virtually seedless), Himrod (green, seedless)
Comfort foods.
It's the season for food that makes us feel warm. Carolyn from Snider's Pork Sausages suggests:
As the cooler weather approaches, consider making some delicious chili with our Italian sausage meat (no casings) - or use the country or garlic sausage meat, if you prefer.
Sounds good to me! All of their sausage (Country, Garlic or Italian) is available this week! You can choose to buy it as links or not!
More:
- Corn or flour tortillas. Pair then with Oaxaca cheese in a melty grilled sandwich and you've got an awesome quesadilla
- Don't forget the salsa!
- Ambrosia Caneles are back on the order form!
- Ivan Brubacher's conventional potatoes are available again. Please note that the Yukon Gold are all second as the have a spot in the middle that will need to be cut out. The price reflects this defect that has affected many farmers this year..
- We have winter squash available on our order form from Bowman's Organic Produce
- Formidable Goat Cheese spread by Monforte (with with dark chocolate and habanero oil!)
- Mountainoak Gouda - Friesian is our favourite!
- Raw juice from Garden Party!
- Daikon Radish and Bok choi are available from Fertile Ground (Kim-chi season approaches!)
- McKechnie and wraps from J&D Peters will all be available for your snacking pleasure!
All our Niagara fruit is Tree Run, which means that the fruit is not sent to the grading station. The fruit is picked riper (and tastier) and avoids fungicidal baths and defuzzing of peaches. The size of the fruit may be bigger or smaller as well.
