A message from Rachael:

How did Tuesday get here so fast? Last Thursday I was searching for my woolen slippers and today it's a heat wave.

Have you checked the Apples section of our order form lately? Not only have prices come down from last year but we have McIntosh, Gala, and everyone's favourite Honey Crisp apples from Martin's Apples!

Look for:
  • Don't forget the awesome fruit from Niagara! See below for our full list!
  • Organic grass fed, pastured beef from Vibrant Farms
  • Raw juice from Garden Party!
  • New flavoured chocolate bars from Anna Tolazzi (descriptions below)
  • Daikon Radish and Bok choi are available from Fertile Ground
  • Tortillas from McKechnie and wraps from J&D Peters!
  • A few farmers are offering Edamame (soy beans in the pod)
  • Tempeh and tofu for your vegetarian protein sources
  • Tomatoes, herbs and salad greens from Nith Valley... beets too!
  • Bell peppers! So lovely and more colours are starting to be available too!
  • Broccoli from Pfennnings!
  • Start preparing early for Oktoberfest by stocking up on sauerkraut and sausages
  • Golden Guernsey Milk from Eby Manor. Rich and creamy and GMO free!
  • Flavoured Honey from Bauman Apiaries - available in creamed cinnamon, raspberry and elderberry in addition to the liquid, raw and creamed honey - We even added honey bears for something fun!
  • Cheese, glorious cheese from Monforte, Millbank, Local Dairy (Mountainoak will be available again next week!)
  • Mums and Asters are on the order form under 'plants'. I particularly love the red ones, but my Mom (my Mum?) likes white mums
  • Wild caught fish from Manitoulin Island. The smoked whitefish is by far my favourite!
  • Organic flour and grains from Oak Manor will be available again this week. Perry has a new crop of oats and will be processing them on Monday so be sure to order yours to get the freshest grains possible!
  • Sunflowers - 5 long stems from Bowman's Organic Produce. Last week I got a bunch of "teddy bear' sunflowers (all yellow petals to the centre) and they look lovely!
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (We have 2L jugs from The Cider Keg and 945 mL jars from Filsinger Organic (in the 'oil and vinegar' section under 'pantry')
Niagara Fruit
Friday's fruit was awesome and it's a great time for putting some away in jars or in the freezer. If you want to get an idea of what the fruit varieties look like you can see photos of typical Niagara tree fruit
  • Peaches: Cresthaven, Loring, and Babygold (I highly recommend the Loring Peaches!)
  • Red Plums:  Vanier
  • Blue Plums: Damson (very limited), Italian Prune Plums, Valerie, Victory and Violet (see the descriptions on our order form)
  • Pears: Clapp Pears, French Bartlet Pears and Bartlett Pears
  • Grapes: Sovereign Coronation (blue, virtually seedless), NY Muscat (blue, with seeds) and Himrod (green seedless)
  • Blackberries and Raspberries
Niagara fruit is Tree Run:
All our Niagara fruit is Tree Run, which means that the fruit is not sent to the grading station. The fruit is picked riper (and tastier) and avoids fungicidal baths and defuzzing of peaches. The size of the fruit may be bigger or smaller as well.

Anna Tolazzi flavoured chocolate bars:

Katharina just sent me her updated list of flavoured chocolate bars. All the bars have updated descriptions on our order form for you to read. She has now verified that all her bars except two are gluten free (and the 'may contain' ingredients in them will be phased out).  I'd like to share the list of new bars with you:
  • Wild Goose Chase: 72.5% bittersweet chocolate with hazelnuts, almonds, pistachios, cashews, sprinkled with barberries and goldenberries
  • Hop, Skip, and Jump: Pistachio/brandied cherry marzipan in 64% semi-sweet chocolate
  • Swashbuckler: Spiced dates and pistachio in 72% bittersweet chocolate
  • Fox Trot: Peanut Fudge in 60% semi-sweet chocolate
  • Highroller: Pecan caramel with Champagne Cognac in 60% semi-sweet chocolate
  • Northern Dancer: semi-sweet chocolate with a centre layer of hazelnut gianduja infused with Indonesian vanilla and tonka beans (an Australian aromatic, exotic-flavoured bean)
  • Peanut Farmer: 60% semi-sweet chocolate filled with lightly salted organic peanut gianduja
