Bailey's Local Foods ordering ends at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 31st

This is your reminder that you should place your order before 8:00 pm Tuesday May 31st for pickup on Friday June 3rd.
Click http://baileyslocalfoods.ca/ordering to log-in and order.
Items that you have placed in your shopping cart will be ordered on your behalf on Tuesday at 8:00pm. There is no checkout button. If you do not intend to order, please ensure that your shopping cart is empty.

Hello again,

Can you believe that ordering closes so soon?
The upside for ordering monthly was a loooong time to order. Now that we are weekly we get food every Friday, but ordering is only open from Friday night at 11pm to Tuesday night at 8pm. Isn't it lovely that your fridge doesn't get completely empty between pickups?

We've had asparagus almost every day since Friday. How about you? This week is supposed to be hot and not rainy - what a change! Hopefully the farmers will be thankful for the change and the plants will grow well without bolting due to the heat. It's such a fine line!

If you are looking for the entry for the two free passes for Forks Over Knives at the Princess Cinema, please look in the 'other' section. Sorry to those who went looking for the entry before it was on the order form!

A few things to highlight:
  • This is the last week for frozen edamame from Drumlin Farm
  • This is the last week for seedlings from Sarah's Kitchen Gardens
  • Tortillas from McKechnie are available this week again, but not for another two weeks - Have you tried their taco shells? One word of warning - once you try then you won't be able to eat the ones from the grocery store!
  • Did you see Elvina's winter lettuce last week? It was such a lovely head. I haven't tried it yet but I'm looking forward to a tasty salad!
  • If you are planning for summer grilling, consider one of the boxes from Vibrant Farms. Great value for a lot of great meat!
  • 100 mile organic spelt bread from Golden Hearth - the only truly local bread is available every week, but if we need to order at least four for them to bake it!
  • Brenda Knechtel has increased her numbers so there are more greens available for you.
Garden Party Award
Last week Theresa Schumilas of Garden Party (a local CSA) received the Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence, presented by Minister Mitchell. To celebrate the award Teresa is setting up for a special on-farm market this coming Thursday from 4 - 7 pm. There will be extra produce for people who drop by and are not members including a full range of storage vegetables (potatoes, carrots, beets and parsnips). Plus, a "salad bar" of lettuces, arugula, spinach and other greens, cooking greens like bok choy and kale, green garlic and onion, cucumbers, tomatoes, and even local organic mushrooms. Plus, Teresa will have some refreshments for you - and hopes it is a nice evening to wander through the garden and pick some flowers

Think cool thoughts!
