Free Movie passes for Forks over Knives
Princess Cinemas is running a food/nutrition documentary entitled "Forks Over Knives" which is playing June 17-23 and they want to give two free movie passes to one of our members! Here is some information on the film: http://www.princesscinemas.com/film/?id=2352. If you would like to win the passes, please add a draw entry to your shopping cart - look for it in the 'other' section. We will accept one entry per household and will draw an entry at random for pickup at the June 10th or 17th pickup!

From Maryrose:

Hello Folks,

How did you enjoy our first mini heat wave? We spent most of Tuesday at the splash pad in Victoria Park. It felt so good to get wet and cool down. I had plans to pack a lunch and head to the park again Wednesday, but was surprised when I woke up and it was so much cooler out. There was no need to keep cool. So I used the perfect opportunity to get my seedlings from Sarah in the ground.

How is that amazing asparagus treating you. I think I have had it once a day since last Friday. We have gone through two bags from Barrie's Asparagus. This morning I made an omelette with ham, asparagus and brie. It was so delicious. I must remember to get some asparagus in the freezer this year. I have less than a month to do so.

A little bird told me there are already fresh strawberries out Simcoe way. We are getting closer to the first berries of the summer! The strawberries in my garden still seem a way off. But everything in my garden runs behind. I may have just enough in my freezer to tie me over until then.

Elvina Bauman has a few new items to offer this week. There is:
  • Fresh Sage
  • Fresh Oregano
  • Romaine Lettuce
We are still offering a few items on sale:
  • Cases of Pear Apple Sauce - It's like getting 2 jars free!
  • Mild Chili Sauce from Country Flavour - a great condiment for meats!
  • BBQ Relish from Erma Martin - What else would you put on your burger or dog?
Please remember to order from these suppliers this week. They will not be available again until June 24th.
  • Oak Manor - Stock up on flour and grains every other week this summer!
  • Green Table Foods - Available every two weeks through the summer.
If you are looking for a certain product and it isn't available, we have some suppliers who are not available every week in the summer. Some of these include:
  • Soiled Reputation - Antony says that the weather plus some greenhouse issues have reduced what he is able to offer. Hopefully they will be ready for June 17th
  • Monforte Cheese - delivered with Soiled Reputation
  • Rounds Beans - Available every few weeks
  • McKechnie - Available every two weeks through the summer.
  • J and D Peters - delivered with McKechnie
From Rachael:

Noah from Traditional Foods has a great deal for you! The 10 lb Beef Box of Family Value Steaks is on sale for $60! It includes Sirloin steaks, Blade steaks and more! It is the most economical box that we offer right now!

With the Green Table offerings being offered this week comes Eleanor's amazing Gluten Free Sunflower Flax Bread! Oh, how I've missed this. There are 6 loaves available and it freezes very well! I can almost taste the BLT I have planned for next Saturday!

So, recently I found this blog called Well Preserved and I'm finding it very inspiring. If you go back about a month there was a periodic table of preserving that I LOVED and just the other day there was a list of June preserving tips posted... Wow! Check them out at http://wellpreserved.ca/2011/06/01/june-preserving-ideas/

Here are some upcoming events you might enjoy:
  • Grand Porch Party on June 12th from 3 to 5 pm - Details at http://grandporchparty.wordpress.com/
  • 3rd Mayor's Forum (Waterloo) on Building Resilient Communities - Don't forget to register for the final event of the Mayor's Forum Series on Building Resilient Communities! It happens Saturday, June 18th in the Turret at Wilfrid Laurier University! Costs have been lowered to only $15 (with a 20% discount or more for those that need it.) Registration details at http://resilientwaterloo.ca (and an awesome 7 minute video of what happened at the first event) and http://www.transitionkw.ca/mayorsforumseries.html.
  • Square2Square "car-free" Sundays will close down a large area of King Street, Waterloo on four days this summer, so the public can take back the street on foot, bike or skateboards. This new, exciting community event needs adults or supervised teen volunteers as Guides, Runners or Helpers on Sunday June 19, July 17, August 14 and/or September 18, for 2-3 hour shifts - If you are interested in volunteering please email volunteer@waterloo.ca

Have a wonderful weekend,
