A message from Rachael:
When you compare the nutrient content of spinach grown in Hamilton and Spinach grown in California what do you get? In this case they found that locally grown food *is* healthier! http://www.cbc.ca/hamilton/news/story/2012/05/09/hamilton-food-test.html.

Check out this super cool map of "The Various Varieties of Vegetables": http://popchartlab.com/products/the-various-varieties-of-vegetables. It makes we wonder where Bacon Avocadoes are grown. Also, whoever made this chart hasn't seen Nathan of Nith Valley's list of tomato varieties! (And yes, both of those are in the 'fruit' section). The 'leaf vegetables' section is cool too! Head lettuce is a subset of salad greens. Can you find Jerusalem Artichokes on the map?

What are your favourite local foods to order in February and eat in March? Here are some of my family's favourites
  • Cheese
  • Popcorn
  • Grape tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Greens and sprouts
  • Tempeh
  • Cookies, muffins and bread!
  • Crema La Vaquita - great with tamales, cabbage rolls and in soups!
Need a treat?

  • 6 flavours of handmade marshmallows (rosewater, pear, coffee, spearmint, orange blossom and bourbon) - 'pantry' section (since I had to look)
