When Marci became a Member at Bailey's she wrote telling us that she hoped that the "business gets so big that you need to hire me to write stuff for you." Well, it may not be *that* big yet, but I have asked Marci to write for us today.

Here is an inspiring email from Marci for you to read:

Rachael asked if I was interested in writing an ‘inspiring’ email for the Bailey’s membership.  I was busy wondering how I could be inspiring when it hit me. I don’t have to be inspiring because Bailey’s is.  We get fresh-out-of-the-field produce that is healthier and frankly, prettier, than anything you see in a grocery story.  The prices are great and for every mushroom or head of lettuce we buy, a local farmer benefits.  And speaking of benefits, let us not forget the boon to our environment that comes from buying local.

The other thing I love about the Bailey’s experience is going to the Church for pick ups. Who will I meet today?  What will I learn today?

A couple of weeks ago I discovered that 1/2 bushel of apples was A LOT.  I am still trying to make a dent in the proliferation of crunchy Spartans taking up more than their fair share of space in my downstairs fridge.  That same day I found out that rapini is a leafy green that does not in any way resemble the long, slender broccoli-like veggie I was expecting.

Recipes?  Everyone is willing to share.  A fellow member taught me how to blanch green beans before freezing and today I spoke with a woman who has actually come up with a  way to cook kale with maple syrup.  Now that is inspiring!

Marci is a mother, environmentalist, writer and entertainer's agent who is well into her second year as a Bailey's member and can't imagine life without the weekly, biweekly or monthly trek to the church to see what the Ontario countryside has created for us this time...

-----------------------

We're gearing up for the season of giving and trying to make your life a little easier. I bet you hadn't thought that you could buy gifts at Bailey's Local Foods! We have items that might help if you have friends and family who are hard to buy for. Maybe even for those who like locally handmade Fair-Trade organic chocolate (not 100% local, unfortunately)... Just maybe.

First, we would like to offer a Bailey's membership that you can share with your friends. You can buy the teacher, a co-worker or your neighbour a one year membership to Bailey's Local Foods! We'll tie a Gift Certificate on to a jar of Pear Apple Sauce and have it ready to give for any occasion! If you want to share local food with ALL your friends, we have a little gift for you too. With the purchase of Five Memberships (and jars of Pear Apple Sauce) we'll throw in a complimentary membership for your next year at Bailey's!

Look for Gift baskets in December (Yay!) but until then, find some ways to treat yourself!
  • Raspberry Honey  - just honey and raspberries - pink and lovely on toast!
  • The last of the Tomatoes before Floralane replants their greenhouse =(
  • Jerusalem Artichokes - cook them like you would potatoes... (they aren't green and spiky)
  • Snyder Heritage Farms Turkey is  GMO Free and prices have just become even better!
  • Mapleton's Yogurt price has just increased, but it's still worth it for that creamy goodness
  • Oak Manor Flour is 10% off for this order only! Stock up for your holiday baking!!!
  • Did I mention Chocolate Bars and Hot Chocolate earlier? Katharina from Anna Tolazzi Artisan Chocolates has something just for your sweet tooth and mine!
Soon we'll have a category for 'gifts', but for now look in the 'other' category and have fun shopping!!

Have a great week,
Rachael and Maryrose,
