An email from Rachael:

Hi Local Eaters!

Ordering is open for just over a week more. This will be our last monthly pickup and there will be a 5 1/2 week break before we resume on May 27th for weekly Friday Pickups! Make sure you order enough yogurt, carrots, meat, cheese, butter and other great products that store so well! We look forward to the asparagus season when we get back to weekly pickups. Mmmmm!

This Sunday April 10th I (Rachael) will be interviewed on The Food Show with Andrew Coppolino on 570 News sometime between 12 noon and 1 pm. This interview will help promote the How and Why of Local Food event being held Saturday April 16th from 9 am to 11 am at the Kitchener Market. Tickets for the event are $10 and can still be purchased by contacting women@glencairn.ca or 519 579-1646.

A few other things you might like:
  • We have added frozen organic edamame from Drumlin Farms to the offering list! Edamame is one of the Six Waterloo Region Foods You Need to Try according to foodlink (http://www.foodlink.ca/local-dish/six-waterloo-region-foods-you-need-to-try). Stock up for the introductory price of $3.75 per half pound!
  • Vegetable and Stone Wheat crackers from Barrie Bros. Nate loves the Vegetable crackers best!
  • NEW CROP Maple Syrup from Snyder Heritage Farms. All varieties and sizes are available including mason jars! Maple syrup is a great source of antioxidants!
Oak Manor Price Increases
Before ordering closes the price for Oak Manor grains and flours need to be adjusted - Prices will be slightly higher. Once the adjustments are made, I will email THOSE WHO HAVE ORDERED so that they are aware of the new prices. I am including the message from Perry below.

I am sure you are aware of all the increases in commodity prices and fuel etc... This obviously has an effect on all of us, so, we have a marginal price increase effective immediately. I anticipate that over the next 6 months that some commodities will continue to increase while others will stabilize. Let’s hope that fuel prices don’t go too high. But I guess that’s why we do the local thing, for the lesser impact. I would shudder to be bringing in my grain fro the prairies at this time. The freight is a killer!

Thank goodness local food does not have to travel very far!

We'll send another email on Monday to remind you that ordering is coming to a close.

Enjoy the sun!
