Click http://baileyslocalfoods.ca/ordering to log-in and order.
Items that you have placed in your shopping cart will be ordered on your behalf on Tuesday at 8:00pm. There is no checkout button. If you do not intend to order, please ensure that your shopping cart is empty.
***Please note - Our last MONDAY pickup is April 18! Weekly Friday pickups will start May 27th.
A quick reminder to got your order in. If you are celebrating Easter, this pickup is the Monday before Easter Weekend so you can get food for your family meal or some tasty treats including chocolate from Anna Tolazzi for your favourite bunny love (adults like chocolate too!). Even if you are not on facebook, you can see photos of what is available at https://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=348354&id=73910308689&l=850b60a85e (yes, it was an easy way to post them!). Chris is one of our volunteers and she suggested the chocolate postcards as an awesome teacher gift - for the french teacher especially.
Also, remember that you need to order for 5.5 weeks! We promise that there will be AMAZING fresh, new items at the end of May and we can't wait either.
In the mean time please do visit the Kitchener Market, St Jacob's Market, Oak Ridge Acres, Barrie's Asparagus, Herrle's, Seven Shores and all the other amazing places where you can buy local food and support the amazing movement in this region!
Anna from The Nutty Bakers called today and asked if I had received any feedback on the vegetable roll samples she gave out at the last pickup. Please do let us know what you think of them and we'll pass your feedback on to Anna!
Have a great week!
Maryrose and Rachael

An email from Rachael:
Hi Local Eaters!
Ordering is open for just over a week more. This will be our last monthly pickup and there will be a 5 1/2 week break before we resume on May 27th for weekly Friday Pickups! Make sure you order enough yogurt, carrots, meat, cheese, butter and other great products that store so well! We look forward to the asparagus season when we get back to weekly pickups. Mmmmm!
This Sunday April 10th I (Rachael) will be interviewed on The Food Show with Andrew Coppolino on 570 News sometime between 12 noon and 1 pm. This interview will help promote the How and Why of Local Food event being held Saturday April 16th from 9 am to 11 am at the Kitchener Market. Tickets for the event are $10 and can still be purchased by contacting women@glencairn.ca or 519 579-1646.
A few other things you might like:
Before ordering closes the price for Oak Manor grains and flours need to be adjusted - Prices will be slightly higher. Once the adjustments are made, I will email THOSE WHO HAVE ORDERED so that they are aware of the new prices. I am including the message from Perry below.
I am sure you are aware of all the increases in commodity prices and fuel etc... This obviously has an effect on all of us, so, we have a marginal price increase effective immediately. I anticipate that over the next 6 months that some commodities will continue to increase while others will stabilize. Letâs hope that fuel prices donât go too high. But I guess thatâs why we do the local thing, for the lesser impact. I would shudder to be bringing in my grain fro the prairies at this time. The freight is a killer!
Thank goodness local food does not have to travel very far!
We'll send another email on Monday to remind you that ordering is coming to a close.
Enjoy the sun!

Oh WOW, is Spring ever great! Sure, it doesn't look like it outside today, but it was warm enough on Tuesday for a nice walk without too many layers and the snow is keeping all the bulbs and perennials warm until the weather cooperates.
Last Tuesday (before the crazy snow) we spent a lot of the day outside. We raked the leaves on the boulevard back onto the flower beds, fixed the hoop house so that it was covered again after some bitter winter wind blew the plastic off and we peeked. Under the leaf mold (not so gross as it sounds - just the layer of leaves on the garden beds) there was mint and lavender, lovely strawberry leaves too! In the herb garden the parsley was still pretty green.
Another awesome thing about Spring is all the great food that is making a comeback! We had salad greens from Paul Bowman Tuesday with dinner and they were amazingly sweet. The grape tomatoes from Floralane are like candy! Asparagus will be coming in May!
Paul wanted to send his apologies for the size of the green garlic. As we progress into the season they will only get bigger.
Planning for Easter
Easter is rather late this year. I am hoping spring will make it in time to have an outdoor egg hunt. Traditional Foods has ham roasts available for your Easter dinner. Krista, of From These Roots has put her Apricot Honeysuckle Jam and Cranberry Amaretto Jam on sale. Both make a great condiment for ham.
Here are two recipes from Krista::
Easter Ham Apricot Honeysuckle Glaze
Speaking of Easter, instead of using commercial dye for your eggs try boiling them in local yellow or red onion skins, or for a vibrant red colour use beets. Enjoy all the egg salad afterward! We hope that there are enough eggs for everyone this month!
Katharina sent along a beautiful selection of Easter chocolates for display on Monday. Did you have a chance to look at them? They will be added to the offering list in the next day or so. Don't forget to order you and your family some lovely treats from Anna Tolazzi. She needs the orders early as they are time consuming to make, so please order these first as we'll have to cut off orders for the chicks, hens and bunnies before the rest of ordering closes. Photos will be posted on our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/baileyslocalfoods soon!
Bailey's will be attending and sponsoring many events over the month of April. Earth Day and Spring inspire many organizations and groups to host wonderful local events. Check out these:

Easter Ham Apricot Honeysuckle Glaze
- Heat 1/2 cup of From These Roots Apricot Honeysuckle Jam in a sauce pan
- over medium heat
- Add 2 tbsp of Dijon Mustard and 3/4 tsp of ground ginger until well blended.
- Remove from heat and brush glaze in during the last 20 minutes of cooking.
- Place a baked ham in a large dutch oven or crock pot and cover with Ontario apple juice and a sprig of rosemary and simmer at 325 degrees for 10-15 minutes per pound.
- Remove ham and drain 2 cups of juice into a small sauce pan and reduce with 2 tbsp of Apricot Honeysuckle or Cranberry Amaretto Jam until thick.
- Spread over ham and bake in oven for 10 minutes.
- Allow to cool before serving so juices will settle and use remainder of the glaze as a condiment.
