A message from Rachael:

There have been some great late additions to our order form:
  • Raspberries
  • Nectarines
  • Clapp Pears
  • Carrots from Lena Horst
  • Tomatoes and eggplants from Nith Valley
  • Green and Yellow Beans
  • PEACHES (three varieties including donut peaches)
  • Sovereign Coronation grapes
  • Blackberries and red currants
  • I bet you can find more goodness!

Niagara fruit for this week:
All our Niagara fruit is Tree Run, which means that the fruit is not sent to the grading station. The fruit is picked riper (and tastier) and avoids fungicidal baths and defuzzing of peaches. The size of the fruit may be bigger or smaller as well.

Torrie has THREE varieties of peaches this week:
  • Redhaven - Redhavens are the classic freestone peach for eating. A large peach with a bright sweet flavour and almost fuzzless skin over firm, creamy yellow flesh.
  • Babygold - These clingstone peaches are sweet and juicy with solid flesh (peel with a knife) that are perfect for canning. They stay form when processed.
  • Donut - These are only available in limited quantities (1 L or 3 L baskets). They are a firm, sweet, very juicy flat or donut shaped peach.
Things to look for this week:
  • Sweet Corn from Snyder Heritage Farms. This corn is GMO Free and conventionally grown (it has been sprayed twice and was not coated with neonicotinoids)
  • Green Table Foods - Awesome prepared meals and baked goods
  • Jewels under the Kilt is roasting Ontario tree nuts with sweet (and sometimes some heat) You'll find them in the pantry section under 'nuts' and Lis will be sampling on the 23rd.
  • Get the stone ground or Mexican flour wraps from J&D Peters for lunches or a tasty mealThe amazing stone ground wheat wraps have new packaging and they make some of the best local pasta too! We will have frozen products only from them for the first two weeks on September as they are taking a vacation
  • This is likely the last week for Blueberries. We have conventional berries from Pleasant Berry Farm and no spray berries from Walker's, so now is the time to fill your freezer!
Join us at Summer Sundown Picnic by A/J on Tuesday August 20th starting at 7:30pm in Waterloo Park. Free local food picnic, live music and Forks over Knives (the film) at sunset!

Be well,
Maryrose and Rachael
